The Daikin Mini Split system is a high-efficiency ductless air conditioning and heating solution designed for residential and light commercial use. This manual covers installation procedures, safety precautions, electrical requirements, refrigerant piping, system commissioning, and basic troubleshooting for Daikin mini split models. Proper installation is critical for optimal performance, efficiency, and warranty compliance.
Safety Precautions
Before installation, review all safety warnings to prevent injury and equipment damage.

Pre-Installation Planning
Proper planning ensures efficient installation and optimal system performance.
- Site Selection: Choose locations for indoor and outdoor units that allow for proper airflow, drainage, service access, and minimal refrigerant line length.
- Wall Strength: Ensure mounting surface can support at least 4 times the weight of the indoor unit.
- Clearances: Maintain minimum clearances: 6 inches above indoor unit, 12 inches front, 4 inches sides. Outdoor unit: 24 inches front, 12 inches sides/rear, 48 inches above.
- Drainage: Plan condensate drain line route with continuous downward slope (1/4 inch per foot minimum).
WARNING! Installation must comply with local building codes and regulations. Only qualified HVAC technicians should perform installation.
Tools and Materials Required
- Tools: Torque wrench, flaring tool, tube cutter, deburring tool, vacuum pump (capable of 500 microns), manifold gauge set, leak detector, multimeter, level, drill with hole saw kit, nut drivers, pipe bender.
- Materials: Pre-insulated refrigerant line set (size per model specifications), wall sleeve, condensate drain tubing, electrical wire (size per NEC and unit specs), disconnect box, conduit, mounting bracket, bolts, sealant.
- Safety Gear: Gloves, safety glasses.
Indoor Unit Installation
Mounting the indoor wall-mounted unit.
- Position mounting plate: Use level to ensure plate is perfectly horizontal. Mark and drill anchor holes.
- Secure plate: Fasten securely to wall studs or solid backing using provided screws.
- Create wall penetration: Drill 3-inch hole (or size per line set) with slight downward slope to outside.
- Run connections: Pass refrigerant lines, drain hose, and electrical wiring through hole and wall sleeve.
- Hang unit: Engage indoor unit onto top of mounting plate and secure.
- Connect drain hose: Attach to unit port and route to suitable drain location. Use trap if required.
CAUTION! Do not kink refrigerant lines. Ensure drain line has no sags to prevent water accumulation.
Outdoor Unit Installation
Installing the condenser/compressor unit.
- Prepare pad or bracket: Use a level, vibration-absorbing pad or wall brackets rated for unit weight.
- Position unit: Place on pad ensuring all feet are supported. For wall mounts, secure brackets to structural members.
- Maintain clearances: Ensure adequate space for airflow and service as specified in planning.
- Secure unit: Bolt down using anti-vibration pads or rubber feet if provided.
Tip: Position outdoor unit to minimize direct exposure to prevailing winds and debris.
Refrigerant Piping Connection
Connecting the pre-charged line set between indoor and outdoor units.
- Uncoil lines: Carefully straighten copper tubing without kinking.
- Cut to length: Leave sufficient slack for service loops and thermal expansion.
- Flare connections: Use flaring tool to create 45-degree flares. Deburr inside and outside.
- Connect indoor side: Remove caps, apply light refrigeration oil to flares, and connect to indoor unit valves. Torque to specification (typically 12-18 ft-lbs).
- Route lines: Run lines to outdoor unit, covering with protective conduit where exposed. Keep lines insulated.
- Connect outdoor side: Similarly connect to service valves on outdoor unit.
WARNING! Use nitrogen purge while brazing to prevent oxidation. Always replace valve caps after connections to prevent contamination.
Electrical Wiring
Power and communication wiring.

Vacuum and Leak Testing
Evacuating moisture and air from the system.
- Connect manifold gauges to service ports.
- Connect vacuum pump to center hose. Open both low and high side gauge valves.
- Start pump and evacuate system to below 500 microns.
- Close gauge valves, turn off pump, and monitor for rise. If rise exceeds 200 microns in 5 minutes, check for leaks.
- If stable, open liquid and gas line service valves on outdoor unit to release factory charge into lines.
- Perform leak check with electronic leak detector or soap bubbles on all connections.
IMPORTANT: A proper vacuum is essential to remove non-condensables and prevent compressor failure.
System Commissioning
Final checks and start-up.
- Remove protective covers from indoor and outdoor unit vents.
- Ensure all access panels are securely fastened.
- Power on system at disconnect.
- Use remote control to turn on system in cooling mode.
- Verify operation: Listen for normal compressor and fan sounds. Check airflow from indoor unit.
- Measure temperatures: Use thermometers to check supply and return air differential (typically 15-20°F in cooling).
- Check drain operation: Verify water flows from condensate line.
- Record system parameters: Suction pressure, discharge pressure, amp draw, voltage.
Basic Operation
Using the remote control and system features.
- Mode Selection: Cooling, Heating (if equipped), Dry, Fan Only, Auto.
- Temperature Setpoint: Adjust in 1-degree increments.
- Fan Speed: Auto, Low, Medium, High.
- Airflow Direction: Adjust louvers vertically/horizontally for comfort.
- Timer Functions: Set on/off schedules.
- Filter Indicator: Reminder to clean air filter.

Troubleshooting
